March 12

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Today Max, Bernadette and I went to the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens for a Tourist Development Council meeting. It was very interesting to see first hand how these meetings are carried out. We learned about some of the upcoming projects in Seminole County and their impact on tourism in Seminole County and what the TDC has done to bring and create more interest on tourism in Seminole County. These types of meetings are great for networking and getting to know who’s who in this industry for future programs coming to the U.S. Additionally, constant networking with people who are part of and attend these meetings helps ICCF’s goals and purpose to get better known. After the meeting we went back to the office. Yesterday I spoke with Mr. Miller, who works for Progress Energy, and was able to give me more insight in what we could do with the visitors at Progress Energy. He was very nice and helpful. I updated my energy proposal and sent it out to Mr. Lennox in Washington D.C.

I began my day by checking my e-mail. I received an email back from Mr. Miller asking me for more information for the energy program. I will call him tomorrow to touch base. I also wrote Mr. Lennox letting him know that I am still working on the renewable energy proposal and sent him what I had so far. Mr. Lennox emailed me back more detailed information on what the program is looking for. Also as a group we all gathered and talked about international professional and corporate partnerships, social networking and technology. We all shared our ideas on how create and/or further partnerships between professionals and companies through social networking and technology. It was a very interesting talk. I also began creating a sample for the “about us” page for the ICCF website. Hopefully it will help others better understand the International Visitors Leadership Program and why it is important. Finally, I looked up upcoming programs that are available. I found some that sound really interesting and I wrote the program agency officers what they are looking for in the program.

Monday March 9

Monday, March 9th, 2009

We are working hard on the upcoming programs. We just got word we can release that we have 13 journalists from Iraq arriving at the end of the month (March). This group will be in Orlando studying Print Media in the US, which is quite an interesting topic as of late. The biggest market decline has been in Print Media over the last year and a half.

I spent a good deal of time in Alabama for school and got to see first hand the effects back in 2000 of the recession in Print Media and the convergence to on-line. My “college” family as I like to call them, lived in a small town in Alabama and “College” Dad was a paper mill engineer. He has since moved on to other things like semi-retirement, but even then they saw a huge draw on the workforce of people moving to different sectors because of the lack of work. I can only imagine what the paper sector is doing right now.

We are very hopeful for this group as they will get a chance to encouter a large number of local media contacts and have a wonderful time in Orlando. I am hoping for an event on March 30 for lunch if anyone would like to spend an hour with the real reporters from the real workplace. Please check our web-site for updates www.iccfvip.com
